We have been very fortunate to purchase a small collection of the library of Robin Spencer – art historian and Eduardo Paolozzi’s biographer.
Some of the books have the artists name or signature on the flyleaf.
Many of the books would have made excellent reference for his works.
He was very fond of Picasso, as he owned many books on the artist.
This book The Sculptures of Picasso, was published in 1949 and includes an insightful text written by Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler, a major Picasso art dealer. Brassai met Picasso in 1932 when he was commissioned to take pictures of the artist’s studio. This led to a fruitful exchange between the two artists on the respective nature of photography and sculpture, which is reflected in this volume.
