Description

1970’s Hand Painted Denby Tankard

Part of a small collection of vintage Denby handmade pottery from the 1960s and 1970s we have in stock.

Glynn Ware was named after Glyn Colledge who took over the running of the hand decorated stoneware department of Denby in 1950 from his father.

A new range Glynbourne, was introduced in the 1960s. Very early pieces had the Colledge signature incised.

This was later replaced with an applied signature due to firing difficulties

Glyn would hold the piece above his head in his right hand and sign it by brush with his left. This is why his signature varies so much!

By the 1970s the signature had disappeared altogether.
