 Stavangerflint “Flamingo” backstamps indicate the piece’s origin, design line, and heat-resistance.

Designed by Inger Waage in the 1950s, the markings on the base typically denote the factory, the series, and whether the item is oven-safe.

Common backstamp phrases and their meanings:Stavangerflint Norway: Identifies the maker and the country of origin.

The pottery operated in Norway from 1949 until 1979.

Flamingo: This specifies the exact decor range, famously featuring hand-painted mid-century designs like bamboo, fish, and fruits.

Ildfast / Ovnnsfast: Norwegian for “fireproof” or “ovenproof”. Pieces bearing this mark were designed to be used safely as double-handled serving pans or casseroles on heat sources.

Model/Shape Numbers: Strings of numbers (e.g., 2014/1 or 2000/2) represent the specific mold or item shape used in production.
