Holmegaard traces its origins to 1823 and originally produced utilitarian bottles and tableware.
This striking piece has a smokey grey colour and was designed by Jacob E. Bang (1899 – 1965),- a talented glass artist who originally trained as an architect.
The distinctive pinch glass bottle was made in a decanter size as well as in a smaller perfume form used to house the scent ‘Vers Moi’ by de Beaufort , introduced in 1950.
The design of the bottle is known as the ‘Kluk Kluk’ or ‘Glug Glug’ due to the sound made when liquid is poured out of the piece. As each of these are hand blown every single one is slightly different – check out the other Kluk Kluk decanter we are listing this week.
The decanter size was also featured in the popular Sci-Fi television series Star Trek, and due to that fact is sometimes referred to as the ‘Star Trek bottle’.
The bottle is in very good vintage condition and has a ground and polished pontil. See photo.
The fitted ball form optic stopper has been hand ground and fits snugly in the neck of the piece.
Very good vintage condition – great gift for MCM fan.
The bottle stands 31cm tall with the stopper in place and is approximately 3″ square at the base. The mouth is 1.375″ across.
