Description

Doris Geddes 1950s silk Chiffon Dress

Doris Geddes was an Australian fashion designer who ran The Little Shop in Raffles Hotel in Singapore for 30 years from about 1947. Elizabeth Taylor was one of her regular customers.

This frock was on display at The Adelphi Hotel Singapore where Doris held fashion shows occasionally in the 1950s

I have been fortunate to purchase a few of her stunning samples from the 1950’s.

All unworn.

This fabulous Navy chiffon over taffeta draped cocktail dress was a copy of a Paris model at the time. Many of the designs from Doris Geddes were inspired by couturiers from Paris.

Wide boat neck with draped cap sleeves.

Knee length.

36″ chest 26″ waist 36″ hip.

Vintage size 14.

The chiffon layer is slightly bloused with a pleat like feature on left front dropping below the waist line.

Bodice is lined with a zip which is covered by a fabric covered buttoned placket.

Decorative belt made from the same fabric curved to sit on the hip attached at the front just where the pleat feature ends.

It has a soft bow finish.

The attached skirt has a soft pleat and more pleats at the side.

Immaculate condition with original swing tag and price.

Astonishing condition from smoke free home.

Rare opportunity to purchase a piece of fashion history.
