1830s Hand Coloured Lithograph ABDUCTION By O.Hodgson. Cloth Fair

Part of a series of 1830s hand coloured lithographs published by Orlando Hodgson in Cloth Fair London.

‘Abduction’ – I should like to catch any gentleman running away with me!

No.2 in the Special Originals series depicts a burly working class woman who looks like she could wrestle a bear- and win!

The series depicts people who are trying to emulate wealthier men and woman, who are dressed poorly, but had an attitude.

Satirical cartoons like these would later appear in Punch – The London Charivari from the 1840s.

Very good condition, no tears, – it has been mounted on thicker paper.

Rare in this condition, just needs framing.

From smoke free home.
