The company “La Verrerie des Arques” was born in 1825 and it belonged to the “Durand” family. In the early 20th century, it iwas called “G. Durand and CIE – Arques France” and finally “Crystal d’Arques glassware” in 1968.
The first logo of the company was born in the 30s: the word “arc” appears above an archer, knees bent.
Luminarc, the first trademark of the company, was created in 1948 but it wasn’t until 1958 that everything changed in the kitchenware with the discovery of the opal: Arcopal was born. The new material (white opal borosilicate glass) will be a revolution in the company. It accepted any kind of form (plate, cup, mug, bowl, jar, etc.) and shape, and lots of different patterns will be introduced from the beginning until now.
In 1966 was created the first subsidiary company in the USA which became JG Durand International in 1970.
