Part of a series of 1830s hand coloured lithographs published by Orlando Hodgson in Cloth Fair London.

‘Independence’ – I copy no man’s dress or manners”.

No.3 in the Special Originals series depicts a poorly dressed fop with mismatched shoes who thinks he looks great!

The series show people who are slovenly dressed, but had an attitude and who are trying to emulate wealthier men and woman in the fashion of the day.

Satirical cartoons like these would later appear in Punch – The London Charivari from the 1840s.

Clipped corners, good condition.

Rare in this condition, just needs framing.
